Fear, nervousness and panic are the most common consequences when you experience anxiety. Unfortunately, a lot of people are affected by this neurological disorder.
People have been dealing with anxiety since ancient times. Even Hippocrates wrote about this horrible disorder.
Soren Kierkegaard mentioned it in 1860, and Freud in 1926. It is sad to think that nowadays a lot of young people are dealing with anxiety.
Using pharmaceutical drugs is the traditional method to treat anxiety. Cognitive therapy is another approach for treating this neurological disorder.
However, yoga, meditation, massage and even music are some of the methods that people use against this disorder. Anxiety can be successfully treated with music. Did you know that you can reduce your anxiety up to 65 percent by only listening one song? According to the UK neuroscientists, you can do exactly that!
Generation Y and Anxiety
A survey that was conducted in 2013 proved that almost 57% of the female university students in America suffered from anxiety. This survey also proved that almost a third of young women and one in ten men in the United Kingdom experienced panic attacks.
According to Marjorie Wallace, the generation Y (1980-1990) belong to the age of depression. Increased development of technology, overprotective parenting and the luxury of having too much choice are some of the reasons that contribute to this horrible disorder.
Pieter Kruger, who is a London-based psychologist, claims that the people who are stronger have no choice in life.
He stated this because people who have no choice tend to blame life when they make the wrong decision. On the other hand, people who have the luxury to choose are seen as weaker.
This is because they tend to blame themselves when they make the wrong decision. These people are under a lot of stress because they always want to make the right choice.
“People are under a lot of pressure because they are worried about their lives. However, when you give them a direction on what to do, the pressure and the stress fade away.”- states the writer Claire Eastham in her blog “We Are All Mad Here”.
A type of paralysis can be experienced from this type of decision making. For example, when you want to buy a pair of shorts, you are going to search for the perfect ones the entire day until you feel exhausted and then you are going to feel guilty about it.
The rapid development of technology is another reason for anxiety. People become completely disconnected from the environment because they are obsessed with their smartphones and advanced gadgets.
People want to know everything that is going on the social media because they have a fear known as FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).
According to Kruger, you are going to affect the level of anxiety and your overall health if you get addicted to this fear, which a lot of people tend to do.
Social media allows people to compare their lives. They compare everything from bodies to wealth. This can result in people being more hopeless and depressed.
However, neuroscientists found a proof that you can reduce the level of your anxiety by listening to a specially designed song.
The Creation of the Ultimate Anti-Stress Music
The scientists from the Mindlab International were eager to discover which type of music relieves stress the most. They conducted a study on people who experienced a certain degree of stress. The scientists measured their blood pressure, brain activity, heart rate and rate of breathing when they listened some songs.
They reduced almost 65 percent of the overall anxiety of the participants and 35 percent of the physiological resting rate with the song called “Weightless”.
This was a specially designed song which promotes highly-relaxed state. This song was created by the Marconi Union. The rhythms, harmonies and bass lines were carefully arranged by the musicians.
The melody was carefully designed to lower the blood pressure and heart rate of the listener. Besides that, this song also reduces the level of the stress hormone cortisol.
